This side of the family was, as far as we know, from the Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire area. In particular, a large section of the Bray side of the family was based in Ashwell for many generations - our research here has found relations among most of the main families of the parish. Amongst the Brays themselves, one branch went off to settle in Meppershall, before the branches were reunited by the marriage (in London, for some reason) of Richard Bray and Louisa Bailey Bray in 1862. Several branches also ended up in Australia.
See here for some relevant wills from Hertford Record Office.
Ashwell Education Services sell various invaluable transcripts of Ashwell records, which I have used extensively in my research, including Parish Registers, Monumental Inscriptions and "Covington's Deaths". I have, however, noticed a couple of discrepancies in the register transcripts - see Corrections.
