James Worboys, written 1823, proved 1839

This is the last Will and Testament of me James Worboys of Ashwell in the County of Hertford Labourer First I give and bequeath to my Wife Ann Worboys the sum of four Pounds to be paid to her immediately after my decease for the purpose of discharging my Funeral Expences and Debts And I give to my said Wife for her own absolute Use all the Household Furniture that was her property before our Marriage And I give to my said Wife the Use and Occupation of all the rest of my Household Furniture during her Life And also the Interest of the Principal Money due to me from Samuel Bowman of Ashwell aforesaid Farmer And from and after the decease of my said Wife I give and bequeath unto my Brothers Charles and William Worboys and to my Nephew William Worboys son of my late Brother John Worboys deceased the sum of two Pounds each And after payment of all Costs and Charges which the said Samuel Bowman shall be at or put to in the Execution of this my Will I give to my two Sons James and Thomas Worboys all the Principal Money and Interest which shall then be due from the said Samuel Bowman and all my Household Furniture (the Use of which I have before given to my said Wife for her Life) and Personal Estate equally to be divided between them share and share alike And I nominate and appoint the said Samuel Bowman sole Executor of this my Will and do hereby revoke all former Wills and declare this only to be my last Will and Testament In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my Hand this nineteenth day of April in the Year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and twenty three.

Signed published and declared by the said James Worboys the Testator as and for his last Will and Testament in the presence of us who at his request and in his presence and in the presence of each other have hereunto subscribed our Names as Witnesses thereto,

I the within named Testator James Worboys do hereby direct that in case my Brothers Charles and William Worboys or either of them shall happen to die in the Life time of my Wife then the Legacy given by my Will to them or him so dying shall not be paid but sink into the residue of my Personal Estate for the benefit of my residuary Legatees And this I declare to be a Codicil to my said Will As Witness my Hand this ...

Thomas Westrope the only surviving son and next of kin of the Testator and residuary legatee in the annexed Will was sworn duly to execute the same Samuel Bowman the Executor therein named having departed this life without having proved such Will and that the effects of the deceased are under the value of one Hundred Pounds.
