William Pack, 1809

This is the last Will and Testament of me William Pack of Ashwell in the County of Hertford yeoman. I Give and bequeath unto my beloved wife Elizabeth Pack for ever and at her own disposal All that Principal Sum of One Hundred Pounds due to me upon bond or otherwise now in the hands of Mr Fowler of Saint Neots in the County of Huntingdon Common Brewer and all Interest thereon due at the time of my decease. Also I give and bequeath unto my said wife Elizabeth in the same manner and for the same Purpose as I have bequeathed the above mentioned Sum of one hundred Pounds and interest All that Principal Sum of One Hundred Pounds due to me as above now in the hands of Mr Robert Christy of Ashwell aforesaid Shopkeeper and all Interest due thereon at the time of my decease. As to the Sum of One Hundred and Fifty Pounds Principal and Interest due to me as above now in the hands of John Fordham of Odsey in the County of Cambridge Gentleman I give unto my said wife for her Use for and during her life only, that is to say, all and so much of the Interest thereof as shall from time to time arise and become due upon the said Principal and Interest after the Deductions hereinafter expressed to be made. And further As to the said Sum of one hundred and fifty Pounds in the hands of the said John Fordham I hereby give thereout and therefrom the Sum of Fifteen Pounds of lawful money unto my Brother Valentine Pack of Bourne in the County of Cambridge Yeoman and his Heirs, to be paid to him at the End of four months after my decease. And as to the remaining Sum out of the said one hundred and fifty Pounds above mentioned viz one hundred and thirty five Pounds, I given the sum unto my said Wife for her Life, and from and after her decease I bequeath the said sum of one hundred and thirty five Pounds unto my three Nephews Thomas Pack John Pack and James Pack of Ashwell aforesaid Blacksmiths and to their respective Heirs for ever equally to be divided among them Excepting out of the said sum of one hundred and thirty five Pounds the Payment of my Funeral Expences and the Expences attending the Execution of this my Will which I do hereby charge with the said several Payments And I do hereby authorize and empower my Executors hereinafter named to Call in and receive such Sum and Sums of money only from the said John Fordham out of the said Principal and Interest in his hands at the time of my decease as shall be sufficient to discharge the above Legacy of Fifteen Pounds and also for defraying all my funeral and testamentary Expences as aforesaid And I hereby declare that the joint Receipt or Receipts of my Executors shall be good and sufficient discharge or discharges for the same And it is my Will that the abovementioned sums now in the hands of Mr Fowler, Mr Christy and Mr Fordham or some of each of them as are hereby not otherwise disposed of do and shall remain out at Interest for the use of my said Wife and in the hands of the said Gentleman Unless just occasion and real necessity shall demand a transfer or removal of either of them or any part of either of them for the sole use and benefit of my said wife (Except as hereinafter excepted) at the option of my Executors jointly. All my household Goods Chattels Plate Linen Furniture Stock and all other my Effects whatsoever and wheresoever and Debts to me owing I bequeath unto my said wife Elizabeth for ever for her own use and at her own disposal And I do hereby nominate and appoint Mr Thomas Kirbyshire and Mr Samuel Bowman of Ashwell aforesaid joint Executors of this my Will.

Signed Sealed Published and declared by the above named William Pack the Testator as and for his last Will and Testament this Twentieth day of June in the Year of our Lord one thousand Eight hundred and Nine in the Presence of us who in his presence and in the Presence of each other have hereunto subscribed our Names as Witnesses thereto, the words "out of the said" being first interlined.
