Peter Bailey, 1787

In the Name of God Amen. I Peter Bailey of Ashwell in the County of Hertford Victualler being weak in Body but of sound and disposing Mind Memory and Understanding Do make and Ordain this my Last Will and Testament in manner and form following (that is to say) First I Give Devise and Bequeath, Unto Elizabeth Harding of Ashwell aforesaid Widow, my present Partner in Business, All that my Coppyhold Cottage or Tenement with its, and every of its, Appurtenances, formerly John Squire's and late Thomas Squire's, and now in the Tenure or Occupation of Edward Millard (and which I have surrendred to the Use of my Will), To hold to her and her Heirs for ever Also I Give and Bequeath Unto the said Elizabeth Harding All and singular my Share of the Ready money Debts and Household Furniture Plate China Linen Stock of Beer Wine and other Liquors Cattle Corn Grain Hay farming Stock and al other my Personal Estate whatsoever and wheresoever and of what Nature or Kind soever, to and for her own whole and sole proper Use and Benefit Subject nevertheless to the Payment of all my just Debts and funeral Expences And I Do hereby nominate and Appoint the said Elizabeth Harding Soel Executrix of this my Will And I Revoke all former Wills by me at any time heretofore made and declare this to be my last Will and Testament contained in one Sheet of Paper set my Hand and Seal this Fifth day of January in the Year of our Lord One thousand seven hundred and Eighty seven.

Elizabeth Harding the within named Executrix was sworn to the due Execution of this will in form of Law & she made oath that she verily believes the Goods Chattels & Credits of the deceased do not amount to the sum of six hundred pounds before me Ca: Hill Surrogate
