Edward Bailey, written 1805, proved 1808

In the Name of God Amen. I Edward Bailey of Ashwell in the County of Hertford Tailor and Shopkeeper Do Make and Ordain this my Last Will and Testament in manner and Form following, (that is to say,) First, I Give and Devise Unto my loving wife Sarah All that my Freehold Messuage or Tenement I now dwell in with its and every of its Appurtenances situate in the High Street of Ashwell aforesaid Together with all other my Freehold Messuages Cottages or Tenements And all and every other my Landed Freehold Estates in the Parish of Ashwell aforesaid or Elsewhere To hold to her my said wife Sarah and to her Heirs and Assigns for ever Also I Give and Devise Unto my Eldest Son Richard Bailey my Two Copyhold Cottages or Tenements lately newly erected and adjoyning my aforesaid Dwelling House with their and every of their Appurtenances Together with One Acre and One Rood of Land lying upon London Hill And Three Half Acres near Stone Hill and Cat Bottom (Being all Copyhold) To Hold to him the said Richard Bailey and to his Heirs and Assigns for ever and Lastly I Give and Bequeath All and singular my Stock in Trade farming Stock Household Furniture Effects Ready Monies Debts to me oweing and all other my Personal Estate whatsoever and wheresoever unto my said wife Sarah for her own use and Benefit (She Just paying thereout All my just Debst and Funeral Expences) And I Do hereby Constitute my said Wife Sarah Sole Executrix of this my Last Will and Testament In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my Hand and Seal this twenty eighth day of December in the year of our Lord One thousand Eight Hundred and Five.
